Five Things About Winter - Hikago Edition

1. Snowball Fight

A well packed ball of snow came flying through the air and reached its destination - exploding all over the back of one well groomed head.

Akira whipped around and shot a glare at the culprit who was holding his stomach, bent over and laughing.

"SHINDOU!"

2. Slippery Walkways

Touya Koyou was walking out of the Institute ahead of Kuwabara and he paused to hold the door open for the other man. "Mind the ice, Kuwabara-Honinbou."

"Ohoho!" He chuckled as he walked through the doorway. "Mind the ice yourself, Touya-Meijin. You're not a young man anymore!"

He waved slightly as he walked away, leaving a bemused Touya Kouyo behind.

3. Hot Cocoa

Waya Yoshitaka sat down in the booth, slumping forward against the table with a groan. That had been the most humiliating loss, and once again a not-so-subtle reminder that Touya was better than him.

What Shindou saw in him, he'd never understand it. He supposed Touya wasn't that bad when it came down to it, but he still didn't want to be friends with the jerk. Shindou could have him all to himself.

An idiotic move, that's what it was. Waya groaned again and dropped his head to the table. He looked out the window, watching the Insei across the street fool around as they headed into the Institute. Kids.

Isumi's warm hand tapped his shoulder and with a small clink, a glass of hot cocoa was placed in front of him. Waya lifted his hand, curled his fingers around the china mug and took in a deep breath. It smelled of chocolate and peppermint, and little marshmallows floated in the sweet concoction.

"You'll get him next time. Let's review the game." Isumi said with a patient smile.

Waya took a sip and licked the chocolate off his lips before he began to go over the current disaster in detail.

4. Meeting Old Friends

Akari smiled brightly, waving as Kaneko came down the train steps with a clatter. "It's wonderful to see you!"

"Yeah, it's good. So you said we could get lunch?"

"Of course." Akari smiled and linked her arm into Kaneko's. "How's Mitani?"

"Same as always. Struggling to keep up in his classes, and his mom is breathing down his neck to pass and graduate from high school."

Akari sighed softly. "I can't believe high school is almost over. I don't even know what I'm going to do afterwards. I don't have a job lined up yet."

"Well, I have a part-time job at the mall now, but don't feel bad. I don't know either." Kaneko answered, pausing to raise her hands to her mouth and blow warm air on her fingers. "He wanted me to ask how Shindou was."

"I wish I knew. I think of him sometimes, but I never see him. His mother calls from time to time though. I think she's expecting me to chase after him." Akari rolled her eyes. "I can do better, he's too oblivious for me."

"Yeah, you can." Kaneko said gruffly. "Now let's get inside, it's damn cold out here."

5. Play In The Snow

"This is the most ridiculous thing you have ever come up with. I think you are out of your mind." Akira complained, a goban resting heavily in his hands as he padded out the back of his house onto the porch. He set it down before brushing some snow aside.

"In case you hadn't noticed, Shindou, it's cold outside."

"It's not that cold. Come on, it'll be nice. It's Christmas Eve, after all." Hikaru responded, following him out of the house. He had a few lanterns in hand and he began hanging them up around the porch. "There're supposed to be shooting stars tonight."

"If our fingers don't fall off first."

Hikaru rolled his eyes. He plugged in the lanterns, illuminating the porch in a soft, yellow glow. Akira fetched the go-ke and returned, bundled up as much as he could be. Hikaru set out cushions for both of them and he knelt down at the goban.

"You won't lose any fingers, trust me."

Akira sighed and with everything settled, he selected white and they began playing. Usually they were focused, a burning passion that built up, expressing itself on the board, however tonight their Go was much more lazy, relaxing and he had to admit, just as much fun.

"You know, it's pretty nice out, Touya."

"It's cold. My fingers are red."

Hikaru rolled his eyes again and looked up at the sky between turns, waiting for the shooting stars. It wasn't until yose began that they fell from the sky.

"Touya!" He gasped, reaching over to tug at his hand, a forgotten stone falling to the board with a clatter as he was pulled closer to the edge.

"You can't just grab me like that Shindou! I can come on my own."

Hikaru smiled a bit and waited for Touya to move, refusing to let go of his hand until he stood beside him, head tilted back and looking up at the sky. One after another, a star made its trek from one end of their view to the next.

"I suppose it's really nice." Akira allowed. "Even if I'm cold."

"You complain a lot." Hikaru said and tugged on his shoulder before swooping in and closing the distance between them. His lips met Akira's, stealing his breath, but noticing that he was still warm, no matter what he said. "Merry Christmas, Touya."

Akira blinked twice before he smiled a bit. "Shindou." Affectionately he slid his hand into Hikaru's as they glanced at the sky for a moment longer. Finally he squeezed it and let go.

"Let's go back in where it's warm."

"Sure." Hikaru said, grinning because he had gotten exactly what he came for.

"And Shindou? That move doesn't count."

So many cute little scenes! And of course that move doesn't count.

These are all really nice, but I especially liked the Waya (with an Isumi cameo) and the Touya Koyou and Kuwabara ones.

;)
